Newnham College

The Dorothy Garrod Building, named after the first woman to hold an Oxbridge chair, brings together teaching, research, conference and social space, with outstanding student accommodation, all topped by a roof garden with a glass gym and meeting space. Designed by Walters & Cohen, the new wing complements the existing elegant and inspiring environment with a high quality, flexible and energy efficient building. The project was awarded the coveted title of “Building of the Year” in the RIBA East Awards 2019.

Project Lead: Clare Edmondson

It was important for us to not only deliver on the designer’s concept and budget but to use our knowledge and expertise to help the College make a strong statement about their future vision. Ab Rogers Design selected a rich array of interior fittings and fixtures to enhance the building’s warm and welcoming spaces, lined in richly textured materials with oak, brass and bronze detailing. Working closely with the interior designer, we were able to seamlessly source and supply furniture across the large-scale project with no issues.
